New Michael Jackson Single Debuts – Will Controversy Spur Sales?

A new Michael Jackson single debuts on Monday. “Hold My Hand,” Michael Jackson’s duet with Akon, which was leaked in its unfinished state back in 2008, will be available for sale on November 15. Though the song, “Breaking News” has already made it on to the internet for people to hear, “Hold My Hand” will be the first single from Michael Jackson’s posthumous, “Michael” album available for sale.

The complete “Michael” album goes on sale in time for Christmas, on December 14. The album will have 10 songs including the collaboration with Akon, and two more collaborations, including one with 50 Cent called “Monster,” and “(I Can’t Make It) Another Day” with Lenny Kravitz.

Music buyers believe that the controversy surrounding the release of the album will help boost its sales. Early projections show that Sony, the record label releasing “Michael,” expects the album to hit numbers near that of Jackson’s “This Is It.”

Whether or not the new album reaches those numbers will be up to fan response. As it is, Michael Jackson’s family has had issues with the release, according to ABC.com; and even other music artists are unhappy with the release, including Black-Eyed Peas singer, Will.i.am.

Michael Jackson fans, sound off: Will you be buying the new Michael Jackson single “Hold My Hand” when it debuts on Monday? Will be purchase the album, “Michael,” as well? Why or why not?
