Bride-to-Be Paralyzed at Bachelorette Party; Wedding Postponed Due to Insurance: Video

This is one of those "power of love" stories you have to hope ends better than it's starting. Bride-to-be Rachelle Friedman wound up paralyzed after she hit her head on the bottom of a swimming pool in a freak accident during her own bachelorette party.

Friedman was pushed into the pool by her best friend in a way they'd joked around many times before. But this time, the bride-to-be hit her head on the bottom and wound up paralyzed from the chest down. A scary reminder that horseplay in a swimming pool is a bad idea.

Friedman says she has no function in her hands or fingers and can feel nothing below her collarbone. But being a paralyzed bride-to-be hasn't damaged her relationship with her fiance, Chris Chapman. ABC News reports the two remain a couple, but they've had to postpone the wedding.

The medical costs from Rachelle Friedman's paralyzing accident are covered by Medicaid now, but marrying Chapman would mean losing her coverage because their combined income would disqualify her from receiving government help. And this is the sort of person the Republican Party would rather see go uninsured than allow insurance reform to take its course. How sad.

Fortunately for the paralyzed bride-to-be, Rachelle Friedman, she still has her fiance and a lot of love in her life from friends and family. She said she's learning how to make her life perfect again, which is all any of us can do. Here's hoping she and Chris Chapman remain a couple for life and pull this one off.
