Call Of Duty - Black Ops Breaks Sales Records

Hauling in over $360 million in its first day of sales, Activision's Call of Duty - Black Ops has set a new entertainment record for the second year in a row, following on from the release of Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 2.

Last year saw its predecessor, Modern Warfare 2 set the record of 4.7 million copies in its first 24 hours of release, with fans all over the world waited for the midnight Monday opening to grab their copy of the new military shooter game, with sales of the game topping 5.6 million copies in the USA and UK alone.

Blitzing the biggest opening day achievement of Hollywood, last year's opening day of The Twilight Saga: New Moon that took in $72.7 million, gamers are clearly showing where their priorities lie.

It is estimated that there are over 25 million players across the globe that spend billions of hours online engaged in playing the Call of Duty franchise, and it seems that the seventh installment of the game will be just as popular.

Activision Blizzard chief executive Bobby Kotick commented that the release of the Black Ops installment is on track to outperform the five day global sales figure record of $550 million set last year by Modern Warfare 2.
