Demi Lovato has a life in chaos. Her reported heavy drinking and drug use has landed the young actress in rehab following a breakdown. This puts the future of her Disney Channel in question. The series "Sonny With A Chance" is not currently in production, but it will return to that in January.
With the state of Lovato's life right now, Disney is already planning ahead in case the actress is not ready to return to the series when production does start back up. It is actually good they are looking ahead. They aren't just planning to cancel the series because of the problems in the star's life. They want to keep her show on air and waiting for her to come back. That is actually fairly decent of Disney.
However, it is a bit hypocritical as well. Last month, there was rumors that Disney would let Keith Richards fall to the cutting room floor during editing for "Pirates of the Caribbean 4" because of how he talked about his drug use in his recent memoir. Yes, a double standard seems to be in play here. A representative for the actress has also denied the reports of drinking and drug use playing a part in her visit to rehab. Disney could be believing that claim here.
Disney's plan for the series is to focus on the series within her series, 'So Random.' More episodes will focus entirely on that portion of things. In the past, two episodes have already done this, so it won't be hard for fans to stomach. According to From Inside The Box, Disney said the following about the decision: "This allows her the time she needs to get well, without distraction or pressure. Again, we extend our ongoing support to Demi and her family as she works to overcome personal issues."
It is good to see Disney so supportive. The fact this is a young actress might explain their support here. She can overcome her issues. However, one must realize she is also a role model for the viewers of her series, which in the case of Disney means teens and tweens. What do parents think about Demi Lovato and her current issues? Will her problems cause parents to pull their children away from the Disney channel series? That remains to be seen. Would you stop your children from watching the Demi Lovato series?
