Former "Bachelorette" Contestant Julien Hug's Death a Suicide

Former May 2009 "Bachelorette" contestant Julien Hug's death was a shocker when it was announced yesterday, and now it seems another shocker is in store. Julien Hug committed suicide, shooting himself in the head.

According to Popeater, everyone who knew Julien Hug is shocked that he took his own life. David Good was a contestant on "The Bachelorette" along with Hug, and made the following statement regarding Julien Hug's untimely death.

"I'm shocked to hear about these suspicions of suicide. Julien seemed like a motivated guy, which would have never lead me to believe that he'd resort to this. He seemed goal oriented and not the kind of man to give up! My thoughts and prayers go out to Julien's family. I speak on behalf of myself and the entire group from our season of 'The Bachelorette,' that he great standup guy. Julien was always the first to offer to cook food in the house and the one to offer up one of his 'funny' jokes that were entirely too long but hilarious nonetheless. He will truly be missed,"Good said.

RadarOnline reports that Tom Ulrich was a good friend of both Julien Hug and his family. He said the following regarding their devastating loss.

"I'm completely in shock. When my FBI friends told me Julien shot himself in the head, I fell to my knees in disbelief. This is a heavy day for us here," Ulrich says as he dined at Julien Hug's parent's restaurant. "With all the wealth and privilege Julien had, I can't imagine why he would take his own life. I can't believe this has happened. Why oh why would such a beautiful man take his own life?"

Ulrich went on to say how completely devastated Hug's family is to have lost their only son. He described how Julien Hug was the life of his family's restaurant and enjoyed many friendships with patrons there.

Friends and family members had noticed a change in Julien Hug's demeanor in the past weeks and some say he was "battling his own demons." These are signs that should never be ignored. Clearly this young man needed serious help. Could meds or counseling have saved his life?

This is a dilemma that many families face. If a legal adult doesn't want to take medication he or she cannot be forced by law. The only way a parent can have a legal adult committed for a mental evaluation is to prove that the person in question is a danger to society or in danger of harming himself. These are extremely difficult accusations to prove.

Julien Hug's appearance on "The Bachelorette" was the season that Jillian Harris chose her man. Jillian Harris has shared her sympathies in the loss of Julien Hug.

It is truly heartbreaking that this handsome young man of many talents has taken his own life. May his family find some peace in the coming days as they grapple with this horrendous loss.
