From DWTS To Sarah Palin's Alaska Premiere: Family Tries To Dominate Reality TV

Sarah Palin's "Alaska" reality series is set to premiere on TLC later tonight, but it has been "DWTS" that has had the Bristol Palin and her family in the spotlight in recent weeks. On "Dancing with the Stars" Bristol Palin has somehow made it to the top four celebrities remaining in the competition. This has happened even with her having the lowest score week after week.

Some have said Bristol has her mother to thank for the votes that have kept her in the competition. That could be true, but no matter how anyone looks at it, there is something going on here. Bristol is not the best of those left in the competition. Something more is happening here. It will be interesting to see how she does this week.

However, now Sarah Palin is stealing a bit of that spotlight with the premiere of her own eight part series on TLC. A series that will show what the family is truly about while putting the spotlight on Alaska. The series has been in the works for awhile with the first trailer for the series popped up in October. Now it is time for the series to actually premiere.

The series hopes to give viewers an intimate look into the Palin family. Not the politics of Sarah Palin, but how things really are for her family. It will do that by putting Alaska into focus with its beauty. Sarah Palin had been approached by many to do a series about her family, but it was when Mark Burnett came calling that she finally agreed.

She said the following about that decision to USA Today: Basically, the other shows were all about following a day in the life of Sarah Palin, only it would be extended for days on end. How boring. Alaska is a way to undo a lot of the untruths, inaccuracies and lies about our family. This is a way to show — as we're showcasing Alaska — what our family is all about."

Will this series succeed? It is obvious that people have a way with the Palin family. People have voted to keep Bristol Palin in the competition with "Dancing with the Stars" for some reason. Now, it is Sarah Palin's turn to win her votes in the form of viewers for her "Alaska" series. Will the series give viewers that intimate looks TLC is hoping for? Will viewers better understand the Palin family after the eight episodes air? That remains to be seen.

Tune in to catch Sarah Palin's "Alaska" on TLC later tonight, and then tune in on Monday night to "DWTS" to catch Bristol Palin in the semi-finals of this season's competition. Will this be her final week or will she squeak by to the finale next week? It should be interesting to find out! Check out a preview for "Alaska" below.
