GM lays off Mr.GoodWrench after 26 years! General Motors has decided they will “raise the bar” by giving Mr.GoodWrench his walking papers! GM’s Mr.GoodWrench
started as a 70s’ nerdy guy then the Mr. was dropped and handsome version was created in 2008. That guy was later replaced by all employees being Mr.GoodWrench. It really sucks to lose one's job but at least he has skills to get him through this difficult time.
GM’s decision to lay off Mr.GoodWrench came because General Motors decided it was best to focus on their four remaining automotive brands: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC. So customers can now expect to become Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC certified instead. Perhaps it is time to let the 2008 gorgeous, hulky, car fixing cartoon go. GM has definitely gone through a very rough time and now they are bouncing back and focusing on personal brand recognition.
General Motors’ Steve Hill issued a statement which said, “This is more than a name change, it is a declaration of our commitment to raise the bar on the ownership experience.”
There’s really nothing the public can do at this point. If GM decides to lay off Mr.GoodWrench then that is what’s going to happen. Mr.GoodWrench will slowly be phased out and then eventually just be a memory. Sad but true. So do you think that General Motors really will “raise the bar” by getting rid of Mr.GoodWrench?
