A kansas church, The Westboro Baptist Church, plans to protest Elizabeth Edward's public memorial service on Saturday. Even though the church plans a peaceful protest of only 90 minutes until the service begins, does Elizabeth Edwards deserve this?
Elizabeth Edwards died on Tuesday after battling cancer for six long years. She was diagnosed with breast cancer the day after the 2004 election when husband John Edwards was running for vice president. Unfortunately for Elizabeth, her battle ended when doctors told her there was nothing they could do after the cancer had returned and spread to her liver.
Edwards' burial plans are still underway but her public memorial service will be held on Saturday at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh, N.C. That's where the Westboro Baptist Church plans to be to protest all sorts of things Edwards allegedly did wrong in the eyes of God.
Megan Phelps-Roper, granddaughter of Fred Phelps, founder of the Westboro Baptist Church, took to Twitter and stated that Elizabeth Edwards was wrong to have two more children after the death of her son:
"Elizabeth Edwards' blasphemy knows no bounds...Instead of humbling herself before God when her son was killed, she was thankless [and] rebellious."
Even more ridiculous than that, the church claims that "God hates Edwards and that she is dead because she thought she could control God."
What do you think about this planned protest? The Church is known for its anti-gay sentiments and opposition to the military but have they gone too far? Share your thoughts and join in the conversation.
