The Golden State Warriors will be without their top low-post scoring option Friday night as power forward David Lee stayed in California to have emergency surgery performed on an infected elbow Lee suffered Wednesday against the New York Knicks.
Lee (photo thumbnail courtesy of NBA.com) injured his elbow when he came down on a rebound and knocked his elbow directly into Knicks forward Wilson Chandler's mouth, knocking out two teeth. He woke up Friday morning in extreme pain and immediately went to a nearby hospital along with Golden State Warriors head trainer Tommy Abdenour, according to San Francisco Chronicle beat writer Rusty Simmons.
"I know, I know, it's an elbow scratch, but I was in the worst pain of my life," Lee told Simmons. "Now I know what it feels like to give birth... I'm a pretty good interview when I'm on Vicodin, huh?"
Lee registered 28 points and 10 rebounds after heavily taping his elbow and returning to the game Wednesday. He'll miss Friday's Warriors matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks and is expected as of Friday to miss about two weeks.
The Warriors lose a valuable offensive asset in Lee, as well as one of the league's best rebounders. Expect Monta Ellis to gladly shoulder the scoring load. As for the glass game, Andris Biedrins will be counted much more on to pull down defensive boards in Lee's absence.
