President George W. Bush talked with NBC’s Matt Lauer in his first one-on-one interview since he left office. The interview will air next week on Monday and Wednesday. During their sit down, Bush discussed his new book “Decision Points” in which he describes the lowest moment of his presidency.
What was President George W. Bush’s Worst Moment?
Out of all the terrible things that happened during Bush’s presidency including 9/11, the Iraq war and Hurricane Katrina, the lowest moment for Bush came from singer Kanye West. During a Hurricane Katrina telethon, West called President Bush a “racist.” Bush said, "I resent it; it's not true. It was one of the most disgusting moments in my presidency."
Kanye proclaimed that George Bush doesn’t care about black people during the event. Even at the time, most people realized that Kanye’s remark was completely over the top. The singer went way too far.
Another interesting fact that came out is that Bush said that he was actually a “dissenter” in the Iraq war. Even so, he believes that the world is better off without Saddam Hussein in power. What do you think about that?
Another thing Bush defends is continuing on reading with a class full of grade-school children in Florida when the second plane hit the World Trade Center on 9/11. His decision was probably a fine one. It could not have taken that long to quietly finish the book and then move on. That at least allowed the children’s parents decide how to tell them about the 9/11 terrorist attacks. There was no need to cause a major scene is what George W. Bush thought, and it was actually not that bad of a decision. Obviously a lot of people have been tough on him about it, but perhaps they went too far.
Bush’s book will be available on November 9. It seems like it would be interesting. Do you plan to read it? If so what are you expecting from it? The interview should also be an interesting watch next week. It is unfortunate that Kanye West’s remark had such a bad effect on President George W. Bush.
