A millionaire, Shrien Dewani, was arrested by British police after he turned himself in for the honeymoon murder of his wife, Anni Dewani. Anni was killed after an apparent carjacking during their honeymoon trip in South Africa last month. Despite turning himself in, Dewani continues to deny his involvement in the murder of his Swedish wife.
According to reports, Dewani paid to have his wife killed during their honeymoon. A South African man, initially charged with the murder, alleged that Dewani paid him to kill Anni Dewani. The carjacking took place in Gugulethu township, a high-crime area about 15 miles from Cape Town. Some people would question why the couple went to such a high-crime area in the first place.
Dewani released a statement claiming his innocence:
"I'm totally innocent of any involvement in this horrendous crime. These allegations are totally ludicrous and ... very hurtful to a young man who is grieving the loss of the woman he loved."
He may be grieving the woman he loved, but what about the accusations of the South African man? The taxi driver who was arrested for the crime, Zola Tongo, claimed Dewani paid him $2,165 for the hit. Are these lies to save Tongo from more prison time?
Unfortunately, it's too soon to tell if any of these claims are true. It's a safe bet the story will continue to unfold in the following days. What do you think happened to Shrien Dewani and his wife on their honeymoon? Was she killed during a carjacking or was it a murder plot, planned and executed by her own husband?
